From the ground, you see one slice of Santorini. From a helicopter, you see the whole shape of it. The full 12-kilometre arc of the caldera cliff. The smoking crater of Nea Kameni. Red Beach, Black Beach and White Beach lined up along the south coast. The basket-trained vineyards rolling east, and the white cascade of Fira and Oia stuck to the rim. Flights run 10 to 60 minutes, and the longer ones loop out over Thirasia and the island's interior.
