Santorini Airport to Oia Transfer (JTR)

Fixed-price private transfers from Santorini Airport (JTR) to Oia, from €50 shared or €60 private for up to 3 passengers. Your driver meets you inside arrivals with a name sign — no taxi queue, no surge pricing, no haggling at the kerb.

How far is Oia from Santorini Airport?

Oia sits at the far northern tip of the island and Santorini Airport (JTR) is on the east coast near Monolithos, so this is the longest standard transfer on Santorini — roughly 22 km. Budget 35–45 minutes in normal conditions. In peak season the last stretch through Oia is the slow part, not the distance. The village core is pedestrianised and the approach road backs up badly between 18:00 and 21:00 as the sunset crowd arrives. An afternoon landing can therefore take noticeably longer than a morning one.

  • Distance: ~22 km by road
  • Typical drive: 35–45 minutes
  • Peak sunset window (18:00–21:00): allow 50–60 minutes
  • Luggage drop is at the nearest vehicle access point to your hotel — Oia's centre is car-free

Why not just take a taxi?

Santorini has fewer than 40 licensed taxis for the entire island. That number has not meaningfully changed in years, while summer arrivals have. When two or three flights land together, the rank empties in minutes and the wait can run past an hour — outdoors, in August heat, with luggage. There is also no Uber, Bolt or Lyft on Santorini. Ride-hailing apps do not operate here, so the options are a pre-booked transfer, the public bus, or the queue. The public bus from the airport goes to Fira, not Oia, which means a change at the Fira terminal with bags.

  • No Uber, Bolt or Lyft anywhere on the island
  • Under 40 licensed taxis island-wide
  • The airport bus terminates in Fira — you would still need a second bus to Oia
  • A pre-booked transfer is the only option that guarantees a vehicle at your arrival time

How the meet-and-greet works

Send us your flight number when you book. We track the flight, so a delay costs you nothing and you do not need to contact us from the air. Your driver waits inside the arrivals hall holding a Marinakis Tours sign with your name on it. JTR arrivals is a single small hall, so you will not miss each other. If you land and cannot see the sign, the WhatsApp number on your confirmation reaches the driver directly, not a call centre.

  • Flight tracking included — delayed landings are re-timed automatically
  • 60 minutes of free waiting time from touchdown
  • Driver holds a named sign inside the arrivals hall
  • Direct WhatsApp line to your driver on the confirmation
  • Child seats available free of charge if requested at booking

Getting to your Oia hotel with luggage

This is the part most visitors do not plan for. Oia's centre is entirely pedestrianised, and many of its best-known cave hotels are built down the caldera face — reached by stepped paths, not roads. No vehicle can reach the door. Tell us your hotel name when you book and we will drop you at the closest legal vehicle access point and point you to the right path. Most caldera-side properties will send a porter to meet you there if you give them an arrival window; it is worth emailing them in advance. If you are staying below the main square, expect anywhere from 30 to 200 steps.

Booking your return to the airport

Departures are tighter than arrivals. JTR is a small airport that handles a heavy summer schedule, and the security queue regularly outruns the terminal's capacity in July and August. We recommend leaving Oia three hours before a peak-season flight and two and a half hours outside peak. Book the return at the same time as your arrival and we will hold the slot — return journeys booked on the day are frequently unavailable in August.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi from Santorini airport to Oia?
A metered taxi typically runs €50–€70 depending on time of day and luggage, assuming one is available. Our private transfer is fixed at €60 for up to 3 passengers, booked in advance, so the price cannot move.
How long does the airport to Oia transfer take?
35–45 minutes in normal traffic. Allow 50–60 minutes if you are arriving during the 18:00–21:00 sunset window, when the approach into Oia is congested.
Is there a bus from Santorini airport to Oia?
Not directly. The public bus from the airport goes to the Fira central terminal, where you change to an Oia bus. With luggage and a connection, this typically takes 60–90 minutes and buses do not run late at night.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
Nothing on your side. We track your flight number and re-time the pickup automatically. Waiting time is free for 60 minutes from actual touchdown.
Can the driver take us all the way to our hotel door in Oia?
Often not, and that is a feature of Oia rather than the service. The village centre is pedestrianised and many caldera-side hotels are only reachable on foot down stepped paths. We drop you at the nearest vehicle access point and direct you from there.
Do you provide child seats?
Yes, free of charge. Tell us the children's ages when you book so we bring the right seat.
How many passengers and bags fit?
Our standard prices cover up to 3 passengers, with €5 per extra passenger. Mercedes Sprinters handle larger groups and multiple large suitcases — tell us your bag count and we will assign the right vehicle.
