Santorini Airport to Fira Transfer (JTR)
Fixed-price transfers from Santorini Airport (JTR) to Fira, from €30 shared or €40 private for up to 3 passengers. It is the island's shortest main transfer — about 15 minutes — and the one most likely to be swallowed by a taxi queue if you have not booked.
How far is Fira from Santorini Airport?
Fira is the island's capital and sits on the caldera rim roughly 6 km from JTR. The drive is 15 minutes in light traffic and rarely exceeds 25 even in August. Of every transfer on Santorini, this is the one where the waiting is longer than the travelling. That matters because the queue is the actual cost. A 15-minute drive is not worth an hour standing outside the terminal, and in peak season that is a realistic trade.
- Distance: ~6 km by road
- Typical drive: 15 minutes
- Peak traffic: rarely more than 25 minutes
- Most Fira hotels have direct vehicle access, unlike Oia

Fira as a base: what the short transfer buys you
Fira is the transport hub of Santorini. The island's entire public bus network radiates from the Fira terminal, the cable car down to the old port starts here, and it has the densest concentration of restaurants, banks and pharmacies. If you are weighing Fira against Oia, the trade is straightforward: Fira is more convenient and considerably cheaper, Oia is quieter and more photogenic. Fira also keeps your airport transfer short in both directions, which matters more than people expect on a departure day.
- Every island bus route starts and ends at the Fira terminal
- Cable car to the old port for volcano and catamaran departures
- 15 minutes back to the airport on departure day
- Walkable to Firostefani and Imerovigli along the caldera path
How the meet-and-greet works
Give us your flight number at booking. We track it, so delays are handled without you doing anything. Your driver waits inside the JTR arrivals hall with a named Marinakis Tours sign. The hall is small and there is exactly one exit, so meeting up is straightforward. Your confirmation carries a direct WhatsApp line to the driver.
- Flight tracking included
- 60 minutes of free waiting from touchdown
- Named sign inside arrivals
- Direct WhatsApp line to your driver
- Free child seats on request
The public bus alternative, honestly
There is a public bus from the airport to Fira and it costs about €2 per person. If you are travelling light, on a budget, and not arriving late at night, it is a perfectly reasonable choice and we would rather tell you than pretend otherwise. The caveats are real, though. Buses are timed loosely to the schedule rather than to your flight, luggage space is limited and contested, they fill on arrival waves, and the service thins out sharply in the evening and off-season. If you land after around 22:00, or with more than a cabin bag each, or with children, the bus stops being the easy option.
Departure day timing from Fira
JTR is a small terminal running a heavy summer schedule, and security backs up. From Fira, leave two and a half hours before a peak-season flight and two hours outside peak — the drive is short, but the queue inside is not. Book the return leg alongside your arrival. Same-day return bookings in July and August are often unavailable.
