The Samaria National Park is home to the White Mountains of West Crete and the Samaria Gorge, which is a 16 km walk through a rocky but well kept terrain. The Samaria Gorge is one of the longest gorges in Europe and it is open from May to October. On rainy days they keep the gorge closed due to slippery rocks and rock slides. The Samaria Gorge has over 450 different species of plants, and the many different animal life. Along the path there are pure springs that make good source for drinking water through out your walk. When you exit the gorge, there is a small fishing town, Agia Roumeli with its beautiful inviting beach available for visit. There, you can swim and enjoy the food in one of the tavernas. An unforgettable experience of the real, unspoiled natural beauty of Crete is a hike through the Samaria gorge.
