The answer, at a glance

For a week in the Cyclades, start with two islands rather than a new ferry every day. Give Santorini two or three full days, choose the next island around confirmed sailings, and leave breathing room before your flight home.

How many islands should I visit in one week?

Two islands is a manageable starting point for a one-week plan. Add a third only if confirmed ferry times still leave enough full days in each place.

Where do ferries arrive in Santorini?

Passenger ferries arrive at Athinios. The Old Port below Fira is used by cruise tenders and is a different meeting point.

Choose the second island before adding a third

Santorini gives you caldera villages, volcanic scenery and days on the water. Choose your next stop for something you want more of: a beach-focused stay, a different town to explore or a slower village base. Naxos and Paros are useful ideas to investigate, but the right pairing begins with your travel dates and the ferry connections actually available.

A seven-night outline could be three nights on Santorini, three on another island and one near your final departure point. This is a planning example, not a published ferry package. Adjust it around flight times, confirmed sailings and the length of each journey. Counting hotel nights alone can disguise how little full-day time you have.

Build the route from real sailings

Compare ferries before making non-refundable accommodation plans. Record the departure port, arrival port, sailing date, vessel and expected travel time for each leg. A dated fare example in a guide is useful context, but it is not a price quotation for your trip.

Discover Cyclades has a dedicated Piraeus to Santorini route page with operator comparisons and a search for your dates. Use its route network to investigate onward connections. Check the operator’s latest information again before departure, especially if you are linking a ferry to a flight.

Make your Santorini arrival simple

Scheduled passenger ferries arrive at Athinios. Cruise ship tenders usually use the Old Port below Fira, which is a different arrival point. Check which you need before requesting a transfer. For a ferry arrival, send the ferry name, arrival date and time, accommodation name, passenger count and luggage details.

Our private Athinios to Oia transfer starts at €80 for up to three passengers, with €5 for each additional passenger. Displayed transfer fares exclude VAT; the team confirms the final price and any applicable taxes before booking. Other destinations and service types have their own prices. Choose the route on the transfer page instead of treating one example as an island-wide fare.

Use full days for the experiences you care about

Leave the arrival afternoon flexible. A short village walk near your accommodation is easier to adapt than a cruise departing soon after your ferry docks. On your first full day, group the caldera villages into one route. Reserve a second full day for either the south of the island, a wine experience or a sailing.

Our three-hour private tour starts at €220 for two guests. It can be a useful way to see the northern highlights on a short stay, but a longer route may suit you if you also want Akrotiri and the south coast. The published itinerary and group-price table help you compare. Request the actual date and tell us where your trip continues next.

Protect the journey home

A ferry delay can disrupt a tight onward flight connection. Build a buffer that reflects your route and the importance of the next departure. Spending the final night near the airport you fly from can be a sensible choice; it does not remove all disruption risk.

Keep booking confirmations and operator contact details together. If a sailing changes, contact the ferry provider and update your accommodation and transfer arrangements. Let our team know about changed arrival details so we can discuss the pickup. Any extra costs or changed terms need confirmation.

When you send your request, include both the experience you want and your wider route. A private tour, cruise and arrival transfer can then be planned around the time you really have on Santorini.

Can I book a tour on my ferry arrival day?

Share the ferry and proposed pickup time first. Leave time for delays, disembarkation and the transfer from Athinios; a full day after arrival gives more flexibility.
